LEGAL BARRIERS TO PARTICIPATION IN LOCAL EXCHANGE TRADING
SCHEMES
I would like the meeting to consider the effect of
the benefits system on LETS earnings. People can become worse
off due to LETS currency being counted as money. Thus people
who stand to gain most from LETS may be excluded, or take part
in LETS only at the risk of being detected and penalised. It
would be relatively easy to get a small change in the law that
would enable people on benefits to do LETS.
