Cultural Analysis Summer Academy

The CASA Project addresses questions like the relationship between thought and action, between theory and practice, and between the university and social movements. One of the aims of CASA is to contribute to the bridging of the communicational gap between academia and social movements by constructing physical and virtual meeting places where members of each area, or people that feel committed to both, can meet and share their experiences.

The first CASA Meeting on the topic "Acting - Spectating" (with a focus on the relationship between the university and social movements, the privatization of education, the relationship between thought and action, and between theory and practice), took place in July 2004 in Amsterdam. About 135 people from about 15 different countries attended the meeting. The program included 45 workshops and presentations. The next CASA meeting is planned for June 2005. The first edition of an e-journal with contributions from the CASA Meeting is due to become available in February 2005.

Further information on CASA can be found at www.casa.manifestor.org

Many of those that were at the CASA Meeting are going to come to London for the ESF. We want to make use of the occasion to introduce the project to those who are interested in it but could not come to the 2004 meeting, and to discuss the preparations for the next CASA Meeting and other possible activities that can take place within the CASA Project.
